“Almost every car company in the world is working to integrate iPod into their cars in 2005,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “iPod customers want to take their entire music collection with them everywhere they go, including their car, so we’re excited to be able to work with so many leading automotive companies to provide customers with integrated solutions.”

Volvo and Apple announced in January two iPod connectivity options for Volvo’s entire 2005 US model line, allowing iPod users to listen to their music collection through their Volvo audio system. Mercedes-Benz USA also annouced an iPod Integration Kit for Mercedes-Benz, offering full iPod music navigation through the Mercedes-Benz audio system as well as the ability to select music using artist, album or playlist with the multifunction controls on the steering wheel and the integrated multifunction display on their instrument cluster.

iPod is the world’s most popular family of digital music players and the best way for Mac® or PC users to listen to music at home, on-the-go and in the car. Apple is working with leaders in the automotive industry to provide the best experience through car stereo systems, as the automobile is a perfect place for iPod users to listen to their music.

The iPod Integration Kit for Mercedes-Benz will debut this April in the US ($300 plus installation) with the newly redesigned 2006 Mercedes-Benz M-Class, and for most other 2005 and 2006 models later this year. Mercedes-Benz is the first automaker to provide full iPod music navigation for drivers to listen to their entire iPod music collection through the Mercedes-Benz audio system, as well as select their music using artist, album or playlist with the multifunction controls on the steering wheel and the integrated multifunction display on their instrument cluster.

Volvo’s two iPod connectivity options for their entire 2005 US model line allow iPod users to listen to their entire music collection through their Volvo audio system. The Volvo iPod Adapter will be available for S60, S80 and V70/XC70 models and will connect by simply plugging the iPod into a cable located in the car’s glove compartment, while S40, V50 and XC90 owners can use a dashboard mounted FM transmitter. The Volvo iPod Adapter allows users to control their music through their Volvo sound system and steering wheel controls, and both options charge the iPod when plugged in.

The Volvo iPod Adapter pricing will be announced at program launch in the second quarter of 2005 for all Volvo models. Authorized Volvo dealers perform installation only. The Volvo iPod Adapter works with all iPods with a dock connector.

Are you thinking of buying an Apple iPod? Or have you bought one?

Almost everyone and anyone that I know seems to have bought an iPod or at least is thinking of getting an ipod for themselves or their loved ones. The iPod is just so alluring! However, do you know what you should do after buying the iPod?

Most people don’t. Yet, market analysts estimate that the average iPod owner spend as much as 30% of the original iPod price on additional accessories! That’s a whopping US$60-US$90 on iPod accessories that each iPod owner will spend!

Many people are simply spending their money on the wrong accessories! In fact, many are going for fancy accessories such as car transceiver kit, wireless remote kit, speaker kit even without realizing what are the first accessories they should get.

Get the Basic iPod Accessory before getting the Fancy Stuff!

Do you, as a iPod user, faces these problems on a daily basis too? iPod Screen scratches Click wheel scratches Mirrored back scratches Messy iPod earphone cables iPod overheating when being charged while in a silicone or leather case

Despite the technical and cosmetic superiority of the Apple iPod, there remain some teething issues. Weak batteries is one. Being easily scratched is another. These problems immediately lower the resale or trade-in value of the iPod, if any? This may not seem important but if you are trading in your older iPod for a new one, this does matter. It also sucks to see scratches and marks on the beautiful iPod. In fact, microscopic scratches takes place everytime you take the iPod in and out of pocket!

Get a good-quality iPod case before ANYTHING ELSE!

There are numerous iPod accessories out there. Many accessories are fanciful, some are good but most do not fulfil the basic need of the iPod. You need to protect the iPod from getting scratches and accidental marks before anything else.

Before the iPod can serve you well, it must be able to take care of itself. So, before you even look further into getting your first iPod accessory or even if you have gotten numerous other accessories, make sure you first equip your iPod with either a good quality case or sleeve.

The most common iPod cases in use are:

Handphone sleeves converted to iPod sleeves

This is the most common as handphone sleeves are cheap and easily available. However, the mirrored back of the 3G and 4G ipod are easily scratched by theses sleeves as they run against the iPod. It is not recommended unless you have a budget problem.

iPod screen and wheel sticky protectors

There are transparent iPod screen and wheel sticky protector that are cut of the right size and stucked directly onto the iPod screen and wheel. However, there are various models in the market and some of the cheaper ones tend to curl and peel off after some use. If you are on a budget, a good quality screen and wheel protector is the minimum you should have.

iPod silicone skin

This is the most common iPod case around. It looks like a good casing choice but it is in fact one of the worst, especially if you have bought a cheap one.

These cheap silicone cases are being mass-produced in China with doubtful materials and design elements. Many of the cheap silicone skins in the market tear easily and pick up lint and dirt easily. They are also difficult to wash and maintain. I will not advise a silicone case unless they are made by some of the better and branded products from USA or Japan. A good model is found at: http://www.smart-ipod-ideas.com

iPod Leather case

The iPod leather case is one of the most popular case. However, do not get the Apple branded one if possible as it tears to scratched the mirror back and it does not have a covering flap. Get one of the leather cases from the many in the market. Check the stitching on the leather case before buying one as some of the mass-manufactured ones may have poor workmanship.

Water and shock resistant cases

There is an increasing demand for such cases as more and more people bring their iPod for hiking, cycling, trekking, fishing and beach trips. There are various good brands in the market. However, note that whatever the advertisement may say, at best, the case can only be water resistant and not water proof which is two different things all together. A water resistant case can only take splashes and short immersion in water and certainly not something you can bring for swimming or diving trips!

Select your ipod in the Source pane under the Devices section to display your ipod preferences in the main library window.
4. Click the Summary tab in the main itunes window.
5. Click the Manually manage music button. Changing from automatic updating to manual puts a check mark by Enable disk use. A message says “Disabling automatic update requires manually unmounting the ipod before each disconnect.”
6. Click OK in the message window.
7. Click Apply in the ipod preferences section of the itunes window.
2. Is there enough room on the ipod? ipod shares its hard disk space between the songs that itunes puts on it and any files you’ve added when using its disk mode. To transfer music with your ipod, you need enough free space to hold a copy of all your music files in addition to any copies that may already have been placed by itunes (this is because non-purchased songs placed on the ipod by itunes cannot be copied off the ipod while in disk mode). To figure out how much space you have on your ipod:
1. Open itunes on your old computer.
2. Click on Music in the Source pane. The size of your library appears at the bottom of the itunes window.
3. Connect your ipod to your old computer and wait for it to appear in itunes.
4. Click the ipod under the Devices section of the Source pane. The amount of free space on the ipod appears near the bottom of the itunes window.
3. Copy itunes folder to ipod To copy all your music files (including the library file that holds all your playlists and other settings) to your ipod:
1. Quit itunes.
2. Locate your ipod:
? Mac OS X: On the desktop
? Windows: In My Computer
3. Locate your itunes folder:
? Mac OS X: /Users/username/Music
? Windows: Documents and SettingsusernameMy DocumentsMy Music
4. Drag the itunes folder to the ipod. This can take a while if you have a lot of songs.
5. When the copy completes open itunes.
6. Click on the ipod in the Source pane
7. Click the Eject button in the lower right corner of the itunes window.
8. Disconnect the ipod from the computer when the “Do not disconnect” message no longer appears on the ipod screen.
4. Get itunes ready on your new computer To get itunes ready to accept all your music on your new computer:
1. Download and install the latest version of itunes.
2. Open itunes on your new computer. If this is your first time to open itunes on your new computer you will need to choose your options in the itunes Setup Assistant.
3. Connect the ipod to your new computer.
5. Copy music from ipod to new computer To copy all your music files (including the library file that holds all your playlists and other settings) to your new computer:
1. Locate your Music folder (Mac OS X) or your My Music folder (Windows) on your new computer:
? Mac OS X: /Users/username/Music
? Windows: Documents and SettingsusernameMy DocumentsMy Music
2. Drag the itunes folder in this location out to the desktop.
3. Locate the ipod on the new computer:
? Mac OS X: On the desktop.
? Windows: In My Computer.
4. Double-click on the ipod to open it.
5. Drag the itunes folder from the ipod to the Music folder (Mac OS X) or My Music Folder (Windows) on your new computer. This can take a while if you have a lot of songs.
6. Open itunes.
.
